Johann de Silva
Johann de Silva has been the personal student of the Secretary General of the ITF, Master Trevor Nicholls, since the age of fifteen, and has had the privilege of representing the UK for over ten years, captaining the UK Taekwon-Do Team at the ITF World Championships in South Korea in 2004. He has been National Taekwon-Do Champion and a medallist at both European and World Championship level.
Mr de Silva opened the first De Silva Taekwon-Do academy in October 1998, at St James Church Centre in Wembley. The academy, now run by Mr Richar Moore, remains the traditional home of De Silva Taekwon-Do, and its students – the “Warriors”.
Mr de Silva is the Chief Instructor of the Black Belt Institute and personally responsible for training all black belts and senior grades. Since the first academy opened in 1998, he has trained more than twenty –five black belts from complete beginner to Dan grade.
In 2006 he was appointed coach of the National Junior Boys Taekwon-Do Team successfully leading them to Euopean and World Championship gold.
